• Tracey McIntosh - Professor of Indigenous Studies

    We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Tracey McIntosh on her new appointment to Professor of Indigenous Studies and Co-Head of Te Wānanga o Waipapa at the University of Auckland (to commence 1 July 2017).

    Tracey has been influential in the success of Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga (NPM) over its 15 years, involved from the early days in leadership positions, initially on the NPM Research Committee, and then as a Joint Director (2007-2010), Director (mid 2014-2015) and most recently as Co-Director (2016-2017).

  • Media Savvy for Māori Researchers

    On 12 & 13 June 2017 NPM will once again be hosting an Auckland based Science Media Savvy - Media Skills for Māori Researchers workshop. This highly-acclaimed media and communications workshop is run by the Science Media Centre and follows on from two popular sessions we held in Auckland and Dunedin in 2016.

  • 2017 Wāhine Ora Award

    Applications for the 2017 Wāhine Ora: NPM New Horizons for Women Trust Research Award are currently open.

    This is an NPM co-funded research award of $10,000 with New Horizons for Women Trust (NHWT) and is focused at Wāhine Māori researchers. 

    The Wāhine Ora Award aims to support research that benefits Māori women, girls and/or whānau in Aotearoa New Zealand, is made annually and is a one off grant to assist research and/or living expenses.

  • Hosting Manuhiri and Researcher Wānanga

    Over recent weeks Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga has hosted and engaged in deep discussion and relationship building at Waipapa Marae, University of Auckland.

    On Thursday 2 February and Friday 3 February NPM brought its researchers (Principal Investigators) together for a Research Wānanga focused not only on whakawhanaungatanga but also on fostering greater cohesiveness across and within our Te Reo me Ngā Tikanga Māori, Whai Rawa, Te Tai Ao and Mauri Ora research programme strategy.

  • Te Pūwānanga - Raumati 2016-2017

    Te Pūwānanga’s Raumati (Summer) Issue includes stories and images from the recent NPM Conference, the announcement of the dates to our 8th Biennial Conference in 2018, an outline of the intentions behind our National Māori Research Strategy, links to our recently published Strategic Direction document, NPM’s summer interns who have already begun their summer projects, and other stories and announcements on the work and activities of Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga.

  • Building Excellence in Te Reo Research

    The Māori language is the food of Māori researchers
    Let it be written, spoken and implanted so that it will grow.

    Applications have been called for the new ‘Tohu Puiaki - Doctoral Completion Scholarships’ which will offer up to $20,000 each to six people completing doctorates either in English on Māori Language Revitalisation, or who are writing their thesis in Te Reo Māori on any subject.
