NPM21 Matariki Internship

Purpose

To provide assistance to Māori students enrolled at a New Zealand tertiary institution to gain research experience, increase their research skills, and progress their programme of study to successful conclusion. The intern is expected to spend up to 25 weeks (part-time) researching an issue of relevance for Māori that is aligned to the Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga (NPM) research themes and NPM high level research questions; and as directed and supervised by a NPM Investigator (supervisor) based at a NPM Partner entity.

Term

The term of the award is for a period of time between 1 May – 1 October 2021 part-time, with an average of 10 hours per week (although in agreement with the supervisor and student, individual internship programmes may reduce the duration of the internship and increase the hours per week accordingly).  

Eligibility

The award is for Māori pre-doctoral students enrolled at a New Zealand tertiary institution who are genuinely interested in advancing their skills and capacity in Indigenous development and research. They can be enrolled in upper level undergraduate (Bachelor) or post-graduate (Master) degree programmes but cannot already hold a PhD.

Who can apply

Any NPM researcher (supervisor) based at a NPM Partner entity in collaboration with an eligible student. Students who are interested in applying for this award should discuss doing so with a qualifying supervisor.

Funding amount

Up to $4,500 per award.
