Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga is pleased to announce its scholarships for research methods and skills via the New Zealand Social Statistics Network (NZSSN) Winter Programme 2011.

Criteria: 

Priority is given to senior students, and emerging and established researchers involved in Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga research projects and members of our Participating Research Entities.

Gravida-Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga PhD Scholarship

Through the new Gravida-Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga PhD Scholarship Fund, support is available for an outstanding postgraduate student engaged in research into an early start to life and fostering te pā harakeke (fostering healthy and prosperous Māori families). This research should be concerned with understanding what keeps a family well and prospering, and the barriers to families flourishing.

Fulbright-Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga Scholar Award

Applications close 1st July 2013 and 1st October 2013. The Fulbright-Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga Scholar Award is for a New Zealand academic, artist or professional to lecture and/or conduct research at a US institution in the field of indigenous development. One award valued at up to US$32,500 plus travel is granted each year, towards three to five months of lecturing and/or research.

Up to 10 scholarships will be offered to our researchers and tertiary students (undergraduate, with the required prerequisites, or postgraduate) within our Participating Research Entities to attend any of the short courses offered by the New Zealand Social Statistics Network (NZSSN) in their summer programme 2014 at Victoria University, Wellington.

Fulbright-Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga Graduate Award

The Fulbright-Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga Graduate Award is for a promising New Zealand graduate student to undertake postgraduate study or research at a US institution in the field of indigenous development. One award valued at up to US$25,000 plus travel is granted each year, towards one year of study or research in the US.

Doctoral Bridging Grants

To provide assistance to candidates who are not in receipt of any other significant income during the final stages of completion. It is also for those who have just successfully completed their doctoral studies and who are working on research publications, or engaging in knowledge transfer relating to their research. Funding amount is up to $3000 per month.

Criteria: 

For Māori or indigenous students who are currently registered and in the final year of a doctoral degree; or who have recently submitted a thesis for examination or recently completed the final requirements for a doctoral degree.

Doctoral Scholarships

These have been allocated until 2014. To support the advancement of Māori and indigenous research excellence

Criteria: 

For students who are currently enrolled (or in the process of enrolling) in a recognised doctoral programme of study and research at a tertiary institution. Applicants must not work more than 10 hours per week in paid employment while in receipt of this scholarship.

This programme is intended for Māori and Indigenous students interested in pursuing a career in research. The student will work under the direction and guidance of a senior researcher on an existing research project aligned to the research plan of Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga. Ten internships will be available for the period from mid-December 2013 through to the end of February 2014.
